Who really needs the training?
I was called in by the Training Manager of a 5 star hotel. Even as I walked into the conference hall, she asked me if I had a training module for team building. I might have, I answered. What exactly is your need? She had an attrition problem, she said.
Wait a minute, I said. Is your requirement team-building or attrition? She was stunned into silence for a full minute. Its attrition, she finally acceded. I asked her, what did she mean? She said, people are joining and people are leaving.
People are joining? Good, I commented. Why are they joining? Because the brand is good, she said. Well then why are they leaving I asked. She rambled on for sometime. Finally, she herself was shocked by her conclusion: Top management does not trust middle management with sensitive business information – that’s why the attrition. Who really needs training, I smiled. Top Management, she ruefully said.
