3 Things Employees can do before becoming Self-employed
1. Sort Your Self Out
2. Try out your Business Idea without leaving your job; maybe on a part-time basis.
3. Develop a Network outside your workplace
1. Sort Your Self Out
As an employee, there are innumerable structures that keep you accountable and productive. When you start out on your own, you are a riot. You come when you want, you work when there is nothing else to do, meal times change every day and your sleep is out of control. And oh . . . oh, I better not speak about money habits.
My ‘Sort Your Self Out’ comment refers to 3 FOUNDATIONAL LEVELS of MASTERY within my PassionPreneur System of Coaching:
• Personal Mastery
• Relationship Mastery
• Professional Mastery
Evidently, there is far more to this than meets the eye. Suffice to say that these 3 levels are the invisible FOUNDATION for the Edifice that is to follow. Compromises at these levels leads to colossal pain and damage in the future. As Jim Rohn put it, there are 2 inevitable pains in life: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret – your choice.
2. Try out your Business Idea without leaving your job; maybe on a part-time basis.
If you have a 5-day work week, I’d suggest you invest just one day in the week, in living out and exploring your passion(s). Find ways to generate as much profit as you earn as salary and perks. Remember the fourth pillar of building a financial fortune – SIMPLIFICATION and don’t raise your life-style costs because of your personal double income. Of course you must ensure that there is no conflict of interest in what you are undertaking with your current employer.
3. Develop a Personal Network outside your workplace
Employees tend to be inward-looking and we have a well-oiled internal network in place. Having a large “network” outside doesn’t mean anything because they are largely made up of spectators, caught up in their own life, game and priorities.
Transitions are painful because you are lonely. You are lonely because you are moving from one set-up to another; from one environment to another; from one paradigm to another. It perforce requires you to let-go of one set of connections and form new ones.
Remember, the oft-repeated quote: Your 5 closest friends determine your net-worth? Well, they also have a great bearing on your CONSCIOUSNESS and your VIBRATIONAL FREQUENCY.
For this reason alone, having the right partner, team member, collaborator can make the difference between success and failure.
Opposites can provoke, bring out the worst and destroy each other or beautifully complement, support and bring out the best out of each other. It’s a moment-by-moment choice that makes and/or breaks relationships, marriages, alliances. The choice is yours. Every time.
